For my very first blog post I shall write about my favourite bakery!
Walking down Fort Street Victoria BC it only takes seconds for you to notice Crust Bakery’s white awning poking out onto the sidewalk. As a relatively small store the awning is quite important because now you can admire the rows of neatly placed pastries without the glare of the sun in all its glory.

There are so many pastries but the blueberry danish, passion fruit lemon slice are my favourite.
Visually, the blue berry danisheis just saying “GET IN MY BELLY”. The blueberry danish is always at the perfect moisture level so when you bite down the softer top layer effortlessly gives way to the slightly harder middle layers, I don’t know about you but I’ve had my fair share of hard danishes and at that point it’s just chips with berries. I appreciate the balance between sauce and dough so there isn’t too much juice dripping everywhere when consuming. Lastly, the layers of dough you see after taking a bite are beautiful, I haven’t counted but I think there are more than 5.

The passion fruit lemon slice is quite interesting because of its bombardent of sweet and sour. The swiss meringue or whatever cream it is on top balances out some of the sourness. This is one of those treats that make you wonder if you should take another bite because it’s just on the verge of being a little bit too sour, but the sweetness and cream quickly balances things out and brings you back to “I definitely want another hit”. Is this what they call a love hate relationship? I’m not sure but I certainly enjoy eating it every time.

Crust also makes lots of other lunch food like the falafel wrap, and a chicken burger with red bread. The red bread didn’t taste much different than the normal bread but hey, it’s not every day you can say you ate a chicken burger with red bread.
To me it’s one of those places that just clicks. It also helps that one time I came across a $20 bill under my foot while waiting in line, but I think it most likely fell out of my pocket when I took out my wallet. Since no one else claimed the bill as theirs when I asked I’ll just think of it as life wanting me to continue coming here.
