I recently had to investigate and learn how to replace a dishwasher, and it’s the last thing I wanted to do because you run the possibility of accidentally breaking a water line and causing major water damage. But with the help of a few videos and some self affirmation I was able to remove not only the entire dishwasher, and also salvage the drain pump as well as the circulation pump.
The drain pump was easy to disassemble and had the construction of a simple motor. I had seen the construction of one such motor a Youtube video in the previous year as a result of me going down the rabbit hole of whatever curiosity random came across my mind.
The dishwasher also had a Water Hammer Arrestor fitted in-line with the water supply line. A Water Hammer Arrestor is a cylindrical hardware that as the name suggests stops the impact of water acting as a hammer when the flow of water is suddenly shut off. There is an amazing video by Practical Engineering that explains this very well which I just so happened to watch a week prior to this dishwasher problem, so seeing something I just learned about in person is amazing. Don’t you just love it when things come together? It’s like filling in the last piece of a giant puzzle.
I quite enjoyed the whole ordeal in the end despite the head scratches and pain of having to replace an infrequently used machine, but I guess sometimes we just need to explore outside of our comfort zone to grow.
